Defensive driving on the motorway

You’re travelling on the motorway. How can you lower the risk of a collision when the vehicle behind is following too closely?

Increase your distance from the vehicle in front – On congested roadways, traffic may continue to move at high speeds. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. If a driver behind you appears to be ‘pushing’ you, gradually increase your space from the vehicle in front by softly slowing down. This will offer you greater space in front if you need to brake, and it will lessen the likelihood of a multi-vehicle collision.

This is a defensive driving technique, and the Pass Plus program covers this in more detail.
