What should you do if your anti-lock brakes (ABS) warning light stays on?

Have the brakes checked immediately – Before continuing to drive the vehicle, consult the owner’s manual or a garage. Drive to a garage only if it is safe to do so. If you’re unsure, get professional advice.

What is ABS?

ABS stands for Anti-lock braking system, if your vehicle is equipped with ABS, it will engage automatically. It keeps the wheels from locking, allowing you to steer the car when braking.

Many cars include an anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard or as an option when buying.

The manufacturer’s recommended technique of use should be found in the vehicle’s handbook. ABS is merely a driving aid; it does not help the vehicle stop faster. It also does not eliminate the necessity for solid driving habits like anticipating events and evaluating road conditions. You must still plan ahead of time and brake smoothly and gradually.
