UK Vehicle Watch Schemes

Watch schemes are something that a lot of the UK population don’t know about. Especially UK vehicle watch schemes. From a survey we carried out, 94 out of 102 people didn’t know what a vehicle watch scheme was. Now, it’s time to learn more about this hidden gem in our country.

A vehicle watch scheme is part of an attempt to limit motor crime in the UK. They are simply stickers to allow the police to pull over the vehicle under listed conditions. However, not many counties have implemented the vehicle watch scheme.

Luckily for you, we’ve done the hard part (research). Keep on reading for an informative go through of the vehicle watch schemes in the UK.

What will help you to keep your car secure?

There are many ways to keep your car safe. One of the lesser-known is the vehicle watch schemes. It helps you keep your car in the right hands in a simple way by just applying a sticker.

Registering with a Vehicle Watch scheme – The Vehicle Watch programme helps to lessen the likelihood of your vehicle being stolen. By putting high-visibility Vehicle Watch stickers in your vehicle, you invite the authorities to stop it if it is seen in use between midnight and 5 a.m.

Participate in a Vehicle Watch programme, if one exists in your area. The scheme’s high-visibility stickers, which are placed on your vehicle’s front and rear windscreens, operate as a deterrent to would-be thieves.

There are two types of stickers:

  • Vehicle Watch – By displaying this sticker, you are encouraging the authorities to stop your car if they see it in use between the hours of 12 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
  • 25-plus – By displaying this sticker, you are also encouraging authorities to stop your car at any time of day if it is being driven by anyone under the age of 25.

Stickers and other information about the scheme are available from your local police station’s crime prevention officer.

How can I use vehicle watch schemes?

As mentioned before, you can get stickers from your local police station (if they have implemented the scheme). You will then need to put them on the rear window of your vehicle so the police can see it clearly. Your details will not be logged and there is no list of who has a vehicle watch scheme sticker.

After you’ve placed the sticker, when the requirements are broken, the police will pull over the vehicle. If this is not you or someone who you wanted to be in the car, you wouldn’t want to be there. The police will deal with them. If it is you, they will ask some questions and then, assuming it all goes swimmingly, you will be let go.

If you want to exit the scheme, it’s as simple as removing the sticker from your car. You don’t need to inform the police or anything.
