What’s most likely to distract you while you’re driving?

Using a mobile phone – It is illegal to use a hand-held cell phone while driving, unless in emergencies. Even utilising a hands-free kit can cause you to lose focus.

Allow incoming calls to go to voicemail and then stop before viewing your messages. Similarly, if you need to make a phone call, find a safe area to pull over first. Even if you are not driving but are supervising a trainee driver, these regulations apply to you.

Top tip for learners

Turn off your phone, put it on silent mode, or place it somewhere out of reach. You won’t be tempted to make or answer phone calls, read or respond to texts, play games, or use social media this way.
