Which document may the police ask you to produce after you’ve been involved in a collision?

In the event of a collision, you need to be prepared. If you’re not to blame, you need to be sorted to make it easiest for you.

The document you may be asked for is your driving licence. If you are involved in an accident that causes harm or damage, you must come to a stop. The police may request to view your driver’s licence and insurance information at the time of the accident or later at a police station.

When driving abroad, you must have your national driver’s licence with you. Even if you require an International Driving Permit (IDP), bring your national driver’s licence with you.

If you wish to drive a hired or borrowed vehicle in the country you’re visiting, find out what the minimum age restrictions are.

The rental business may also need a ‘check code’ in order to view your driver’s licence. You may find out how to obtain this code by visiting www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
